The remains of Iranian General Soleimani, killed in an American attack at Baghdad airport, have been buried in his hometown, Kerman, in a mass ceremony on Wednesday, according to the official Iranian news agency IRNA.
The funeral has been postponed until Wednesday after a stampede during one of the tributes to the general held in Kerman has caused at least 56 deaths and more than 200 wounded.
After several days of mobilization in different parts of the country, the coffin with the mortal remains of Soleimani, former head of the Force to the Quds of the Revolutionary Guard, arrived on Tuesday at his hometown, where the citizenship was again called to show Your support for the regime.
During the rally, slogans proclaiming “death to the United States” have been chanted, a message repeated in recent days during successive mobilizations. Kermán’s funeral attendants have also exhibited images of Soleimani, whom they consider a national hero.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard has attacked two Iraqi military bases that house US troops in response to the attack on Soleimani on Wednesday. In this regard, the head of the Revolutionary Guard, Husein Salami, warned during the funeral procession that Iran “will get revenge and it will be so hard that the Americans will regret their action.”
Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, also called for “revenge” against the United States after the attack, which has exacerbated the escalation of tensions in the Middle East. The American president, Donald Trump, has alleged that with the death of the general other attacks have been avoided.
