The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, congratulated Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner on Sunday for his “forceful and unbearable” victory in the presidential elections held in Argentina.
“President Nicolás Maduro, on behalf of the Venezuelan people and Government, extends his most effusive congratulations to the Argentine people for the successful development of the democratic election day today (…) while congratulating the elected president, Alberto Fernández and his partner by formula, Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, for the overwhelming and undeniable victory achieved in the first round of the presidential elections, “the Venezuelan government said in a statement.
Venezuela has indicated that Fernández’s triumph shows “the hope of the Argentine people for transiting change to rescue social justice, economic independence and sovereignty in their country.”
“The massive electoral participation (…) sends a clear message from the Argentine people in rejection of the imposition of the economic neoliberal economic criminals of the International Monetary Fund, imposed without mercy in recent years by the authorities on duty,” said the release.
Likewise, the Government of Venezuela has indicated that it hopes “to resume the path of relations of mutual respect, integral cooperation and joint work with the new authorities of the country.”
Later, Maduro himself pointed out through his Twitter social network account that the Argentine people “in a democratic historical exercise, have defeated the IMF’s neo-liberalism.”
“The overwhelming victory of Alberto Fernández and Cristina Fernández de Kirchner opens the horizon of hope for a better future for Argentina,” he said.
For its part, Venezuelan Vice President Delcy Rodríguez has also celebrated Fernandez’s victory through Twitter. “Argentina gives new victory to the Great Homeland! The only way for the Great Homeland is independence, sovereignty, social justice! This is marked in our glorious history for freedom! No empire will distort the will of our peoples! With about 95 percent of the votes scrutinized, the presidential candidate of the Frente de Todos party has obtained 47.85 percent of the votes, up from 40.65 percent of Together For the Change of the outgoing president, Mauricio Macri.
