Mexico raises the number of citizens detained in the ICE raid in Mississippi to 122

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico has raised to 122 the number of Mexican citizens detained during the raids carried out by the United States Immigration and Customs Service (ICE) against immigrant workers in seven agricultural processing plants in Mississippi.

ICE arrested 680 workers on several Mississippi plants on Wednesday. The Mexican Foreign Ministry has indicated that of the 122 Mexicans arrested, 34 have already been released.

“Regarding the migratory operations carried out in Mississippi yesterday, it is reported that the total number of Mexicans arrested is 122, of which 34 have been released and they have been given a migratory summons,” said the Ministry Mexican through his account on the social network Twitter.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, has indicated that Mexican consulates in the United States will offer legal support to detainees, according to the newspaper ‘El Sol de México’. “The Government of Mexico will watch over its citizens anywhere in the United States,” he said.

ICE special agent Jere Miles has announced that of the 680 detainees in the Mississippi mass raid, 271 people are expected to appear before a judge.

U.S. President Donald Trump has made the pursuit of illegal immigration a central element of his presidency and ICE has greatly increased his activities since he took office in January 2017.
