The president of the World Boxing Council (WBC), Mauricio Sulaimán, today presented to Giuliana Zolla, granddaughter of the former president of Mexico Adolfo López Mateo, the belt of Huichol art that the fighter Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez did not accept after defeating Julio César Chavez jr last May.
“It is the most beautiful belt in boxing history, we close the chapter and we open the belt for the fight on September 16,” said Sulaiman shortly before his sister Claudia hand over the belt to the granddaughter of the Mexican president between 1958 -1964.
The badge, with 40,000 pieces of chakira, took the name of the deceased politician and was manufactured to deliver it to the winner of the month’s suit between Chavez and Alvarez, but the latter, winner, did not accept it and now the piece will be under the protection of Giuliana Zolla Before being exhibited in the museum Soumaya of the Mexican capital.
In a ceremony at a cultural center of the Coyoacan delegation, Mauricio praised the figure of Lopez Mateo, lover and promoter of pugilism, whom the World Council thanked for his support when he was president.

Raising over Alvarez, he insisted that he is a Mexican worthy of respect, admiration and support and predicted that his September bout against Golovkin will be the fight of the year.
“He has elements more powerful than the Chávez-Canelo litigation, it’s a world title match, Golovkin with 37 wins, 34 knockouts, no losses, against Alvarez in a good stretch,” he said.
