Former Colombian Vice President Óscar Naranjo Trujillo today rejected accusations made in a New York court by drug trafficker Alex Cifuentes, according to which the defendant paid the National Police to guarantee protection to his family.
“I do not know the reasons why this individual lies shamelessly,” said the retired general, in a statement dated in Miami (Florida), which he described as a “totally false statement” Cifuentes’ accusation.
Naranjo said that while he was director of the National Police between 2007 and 2012, he uncovered “the criminal activities of the Cifuentes Villa drug trafficking organization,” and that he led the “operation to dismantle that criminal organization.”
He added that during the operation they occupied “numerous properties and the Law of Extinction of Domain was applied to a significant number of assets owned by that drug trafficking clan”.
“There is a fundamental fact that destroys the lie of the drug trafficker expressed in the trial, which has to do with the capture of his sister Dolly Cifuentes Villa that occurred in 2011,” added the vice president during the mandate of Juan Manuel Santos (2010 -2018).
In the trial that follows in New York against Joaquín “el Chapo” Guzmán, the Colombian Alex Cifuentes assured that the drug trafficker paid former president of Mexico Enrique Peña Nieto 100 million dollars in bribes.
According to Cifuentes, 51, who worked for El Chapo between 2007 and 2013, Guzmán Loera delivered that amount to Peña Nieto through an intermediary, whom he identified as “comadre María,” according to local media.
