Sheinbaum Considers Legal Action Against Elon Musk for Accusing Her of Being in the Service of Cartels

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum announced Tuesday that she is considering legal action against former White House advisor and South African billionaire Elon Musk, who the previous day accused her of being in the service of cartels. These accusations came after the death of RubĂ©n Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias “El Mencho,” the head of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.

“We are considering whether to take legal action. The lawyers are reviewing it,” she stated at a press conference when asked about the accusations made by the owner of Tesla and SpaceX.

The Mexican president affirmed that “what matters to me is what the people say… their opinion, their recognition, their criticism, listening to them and always being attentive, especially to the most vulnerable.” “That’s why we were elected, and that’s why we are here,” she concluded.

Referring to accusations of alleged links between her administration and drug trafficking, the mayor stated, “If it was absurd to say it before, it’s even more so now, isn’t it? All these (statements) fall apart on their own.” “They don’t even know what to invent anymore,” she remarked.

When asked about the criticism of Sunday’s military operation that killed “El Mencho” and other members of the group and unleashed a wave of violence in Jalisco, Michoacán, and other Mexican states, Sheinbaum defended herself, stating, “They’ll never agree with us, no matter what we do.”

“There’s a lot of hypocrisy among them, a great deal of hypocrisy, because if you read what they say, first they say one thing, then they say another, that the government is authoritarian, that (…) well, it was due to pressure from the United States. The mayor pressured by (the White House occupant, Donald) Trump,” she added.

These statements come after Musk claimed earlier this week on social media that Sheinbaum “only says what her cartel bosses tell her to.” “Let’s just say her punishment for disobeying is a little worse than a performance improvement plan,” he added.

The tycoon’s message was a response to a video circulating on social media in which Sheinbaum, at a past press conference, argued that “returning to the war on drugs is not an option,” claiming that it “is outside the framework of the law (…) because it is a license to kill without any trial” and that “it has served no purpose other than to increase homicides and the level of violence in Mexico.”
