White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt lashed out Tuesday at Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny, criticizing him for his remarks at the Grammy Awards on Sunday, where he criticized U.S. immigration laws and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
“It’s ironic and simply sad to see people who have private security, who spend millions of dollars on protection, trying to demonize once again the agents who are working to uphold the laws of the government,” the spokeswoman said in a statement to the press.
Leavitt criticized “Hollywood celebrities” for remaining silent when the previous administration under Joe Biden “allowed the invasion of the border” with Mexico and the rape and murder of innocent women and girls “at the hands of people who should never have been allowed” into the United States.
“Now we have agents trying to do their job, removing violent predators like those who took the lives of innocent citizens. Nobody in Hollywood, or at the Grammys, spoke out about this. This is the unfortunate irony we see in Hollywood,” the spokeswoman said.
On Sunday, Benito MartÃnez Ocasio, known as Bad Bunny, spoke out against hate speech while accepting the Grammy Award for Best Urban Music Album. “Before thanking God, I’m going to say: ICE, get out. We are not savages, we are not animals, we are human beings, and we are Americans,” he said.
