US President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he will begin attacking targets inside Venezuela “very soon,” escalating the bombing campaign against vessels in the Caribbean and Pacific targeting alleged drug traffickers.
“We’re going to start doing those attacks on land as well. It’s much easier. We know the routes they take. We know everything about them. We know where they live. We know where the bad guys live, and we’re going to start doing that very soon,” Trump declared during a security meeting of his cabinet broadcast by the White House.
In his remarks, he accused the previous administration, led by Democrat Joe Biden, of implementing an immigration policy that allowed a flow of drugs and the entry of “murderers” without “any control,” which has claimed many lives in the United States: “We’re taking out those sons of bitches,” he declared.
However, the New York magnate has considered carrying out bombings against other countries under this same argument, since he believes that “anyone” who produces or sells drugs to the United States “is subject to attack.”
Trump’s statements come just days after he held a telephone conversation with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, amid bilateral tensions stemming from the US military deployment in the Caribbean and Pacific, ostensibly to combat drug trafficking.
