Elon Musk Isn’t Working on a Phone, But He Envisions a Future Where AI Will Do Everything

The magnate Elon Musk envisions a future where smartphones as we know them today will be merely devices for running artificial intelligence (AI), as this technology will power communications through video and audio.

The founder of companies like Tesla, SpaceX, and xAI denied working on a mobile phone when American presenter Joe Rogan asked him about rumors surrounding his projects in this field.

Musk preferred to share his vision of what he believes the future of mobile communication will be during a recent interview on the ‘Joe Rogan Experience’ podcast.

In it, he explained that “we won’t have a phone in the traditional sense. What we’ll call a phone will actually be a peripheral node for AI inference with wireless connections.” In other words, “the AI on the server will communicate with the AI on your device—formerly known as a phone—and generate real-time video of anything you can imagine.”

Musk believes that “in the future there won’t be operating systems or apps; it will simply be a device with a screen and audio, designed to integrate as much AI as possible,” he added, emphasizing that everything will be done with AI, including sending emails and using social media.

“Anything you can think of, or really anything that AI can anticipate you might want, it will show you,” predicted the tech magnate, who sees this future as being in the medium term: “probably five or six years or something like that,” he concluded.
