The president of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, has ordered the blocking of the social network X, formerly Twitter, for ten days for “inciting hatred” and violating “all the laws” of the Latin American country, in a new confrontation between the Venezuelan president and the American multimillionaire Elon Musk, owner of the aforementioned social network.
“Musk is the owner of X, and he has violated all the rules. All the rules of the social network Twitter itself, today known as X, inciting hatred, civil war, death, confrontation among Venezuelans. And in Venezuela there is law, and we are going to enforce the law,” he said during an event with supporters to celebrate his re-election.
Maduro, who has said that he has advocated for “taking the social network out of circulation in Venezuela for ten days so that they can present their evidence,” has indicated that he has signed the proposal made by the National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) in this regard. “Get out X! Get out Elon Musk! Get out!” he added, addressing the crowd, whom he asked if he had their support.
This is not the first time that Maduro and Musk have verbally attacked each other; recently the Venezuelan head of state stated that the magnate belongs to a “satanic sect of American power.” After the presidential elections, Musk wrote that “Maduro is not a good guy” and that “Venezuela deserves much better.” The latter publicly challenged him to a fight and Musk accepted, conditioning an eventual failure of the “dictator” to his resignation from office.
