At least five dead and 35 injured due to the passage of numerous tornadoes in the state of Iowa (USA)

At least five people have died and 35 have been injured by the strong storms that have hit the state of Iowa (United States) since Tuesday, which have given rise to almost twenty tornadoes, leaving more than 40,000 homes without power and business establishments.

Of the fatalities, four belong to the town of Greenfield, with 2,100 inhabitants, a balance that could be higher after the passage of a tornado that has “devastated a good part” of the town and its surroundings, according to local authorities cited by the CNN television network.

The other deceased person has been found in Adams County. The tornado that passed through Greenfield is so far the deadliest so far in 2024 at a time when rescue services are still carrying out operations.

During the previous day, the spokesman for the Iowa State Patrol, Sergeant Alex Dinkla, confirmed that there were deaths, although he did not specify any number.

The storm has even brought down three wind turbines almost 80 meters high. One of them was “on fire with black smoke coming out of it.”
