A plane flying over Washington DC crashes after being pursued by US fighters

An aircraft crashed this Sunday when it was flying over the capital of the United States, Washington DC, after several F-16 fighters chased the plane because the pilot did not respond to calls from the military.

According to a statement from the United States Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD), the aircraft was intercepted at around 3:20 p.m. (local time) when the pilot did not react, so it crashed near the George Washington and Jefferson National Forest, 285 kilometers From the capital.

NORAD has also indicated that its fighters were authorized to travel at supersonic speeds, so residents in the region have been able to hear a loud noise. Soldiers have also used flares in an attempt to get the pilot’s attention.

The DC Homeland Security and Emergency Management agency has stated that it was “aware of reports from communities throughout the capital region of a strong ‘boom’ this afternoon”, however, it has specified that “there is no no threat.”

At the moment, it is not clear if the aircraft violated the restricted airspace of Washington DC, or if there was an emergency on board, a US official told CNN television.

The authorities are carrying out the search work, since four people were on board the vehicle, as reported by the Virginia State Police to the aforementioned channel.
