Microsoft invests “billions” in OpenAI, owner of ChatGPT

Microsoft invested 1,000 million dollars (921 million euros) in 2019 in OpenAI, which needs the financing and the power of Microsoft cloud computing to process large volumes of data and run the increasingly complex models of DALL-E and ChatGPT.

“We formed our partnership with OpenAI around a shared ambition to responsibly advance cutting-edge AI research and democratize AI as a new technology platform,” said Satya Nadella, Microsoft President and CEO.
