López Obrador receives Biden upon his arrival in Mexico

The President of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, received his US counterpart, Joe Biden, at the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) this Sunday afternoon, to participate in the North American Leaders Summit.

The Mexican authorities have deployed an important security operation, in which the presence of members of the Army and the National Guard has stood out.

Likewise, there has been aerial surveillance using helicopters and drones, according to the Reforma news agency.

The last visit of a United States president to Mexico was in 2013, when then-President Barack Obama met with his former counterpart Enrique Peña Nieto.

On this occasion, Biden’s visit to the North American country is due to the X Summit of North American Leaders, in which the leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada will participate next Tuesday. For this reason, López Obrador will also receive the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeu.

The Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, has reported that the trilateral meeting will address the issues of migration, development, security, climate change and health, among others, as reported by the newspaper ‘El Universal’.

However, Ebrard has explained that the intention of the Mexican Administration is to emphasize a new stage for the region that can be extended to the rest of the continent on the basis of reciprocity, mutual respect and a common vision.
