Putin affirms that Ukraine will sit down to negotiate “sooner or later”

The Russian president assures that the US Patriot systems are “old” and that Moscow will find “an antidote” to face them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Thursday that Moscow has not refused to negotiate with Ukraine and that “sooner or later” the parties will sit down at the table, since all armed conflicts end diplomatically.

“Sooner or later, of course, the parties that are in conflict sit down and agree. The sooner those who oppose us realize this, the better. We have never given up on this,” he said, according to the TASS news agency.

In this sense, he has argued that Russia’s objective is to “put an end to this war”, since “the intensification of hostilities” on the ground “leads to unjustified losses”. “We will do our best to make sure that this (negotiations) are completed,” he said.

On the other hand, he has specified that the Patriot systems recently announced by the Biden Administration for Ukraine, coinciding with the visit of its president, Volodimir Zelenski, to Washington, are “old” and has ruled that Moscow will find “an antidote” for this new defensive mechanism.

“This is a fairly old system. It doesn’t work like, say, our S-300,” the Russian president said, adding that US air defense supplies only prolong the conflict, the Interfax news agency reported.
