Nancy Pelosi compares Zelenski’s visit to the US with that of Winston Churchill in World War II

The President of Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, was received this Wednesday by the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, who compared her visit to the United States Capitol with that of former British Prime Minister Winston Churhill in 1941 in full World War II.

“Earlier I was talking to the president (Volodimir Zelenski) telling him that my father was a congressman when Winston Churchill came here in 1941 the day after Christmas, when he appealed to Congress to help fight tyranny in Europe,” he brought to the present the head of the Lower House during a joint press conference with Zelensky.

“My father said at the time: ‘We are doing the noblest work in the world, not only defending hearts and homes, but the cause of freedom in all lands.’ That is exactly what the people of Ukraine are defending, not only their own homes and hearts, but freedom and democracy throughout the world,” Pelosi said, under the watchful eye of the Ukrainian president.

In this sense, he has remarked that eight decades ago his father had the “official honor” of being a member of the United States Congress at that historic moment, something that the current members of the US House of Representatives and Senate will repeat.

After that, she has given way to Zelensky, but not before qualifying him as a “brave president”, as well as “the brave and united people of Ukraine” for “what they are doing” in defense of democracy.

“What can I say? Different feelings, like different stories, as well as different lives. But anyway, the United States Congress is very important, as it is a great friend of Ukraine, of the Ukrainian people, as well as of the freedom”, the Ukrainian president responded after the comparison with Churchill.

In this sense, he has reiterated his gratitude to the United States for its economic and arms support, which “helps the Ukrainian troops on the front.”

The joint intervention of Zelensky and Pelosi occurred moments before the Ukrainian president addressed the US Capitol to address its members, as well as US citizens, to continue supporting the ongoing war in his country.
