Director of Pro Consumidor and Ombudsman agree to review real estate adhesion contracts

The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, and the Ombudsman, Pablo Ulloa, agreed today to review the real estate contracts in the face of the constant claims and complaints that home buyers have been making before price increases by builders.

Both officials met this Monday at the Pro Consumidor headquarters to analyze the adhesion contracts related to housing construction, so that they do not contain abusive clauses that affect the pockets of consumers.

Similarly, Alcántara explained to Ulloa that Pro Consumidor has approached the Dominican Association of Housing Builders and Promoters (Acoprovi) with a view to guaranteeing transparency in the cost and real estate buildings, for which they will attend the lunch that The union will carry out this Tuesday, to continue with the agenda of commitments with a view to protecting consumer rights in the particular case of home buyers.

The head of the consumer defense entity said that the Ombudsman took advantage of the occasion to learn about the innovative conciliation procedures that this institution has implemented, “which, in the opinion of the head of Pro Consumidor, have given excellent results, where 90% of real estate claims have been settled”.

For his part, Ulloa declared at the end of the meeting that he was able to validate that there is an interest from Pro Consumidor to act in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic and what is established by Law 358-05, to protect the rights of consumers in their relationship with the market for goods and services.

Finally, he maintained that most of the cases have been reconciled, which shows a level of effectiveness on the legal basis, “guaranteeing the economic interests of Dominicans as consumers.”
