The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, INDRHI, finalizes a set of works in the southern region of the country to achieve the guarantee of water for human consumption, agricultural production and hydroelectric generation in the demarcation, which, after important investments by the government sector, is already advancing in its tourist and export takeoff.
This was expressed by Olmedo Caba Romano, executive director of INDRHI, during an inspection tour of the Azua II – Pueblo Viejo and Multiple Agricultural Development projects of the Montegrande Dam, the latter being built in the border area of the Azua and Barahona provinces.
Regarding the work in the Azua II – Pueblo Viejo project, the official said that a third phase will be delivered soon, which includes the concrete lining and the extension of its main channel YSURA by 3.2 kilometers towards crop areas in the municipalities of Las Charcas and EstebanÃa. , on the other side of the Jura river, the construction of 3 siphons, 4 vehicle crossings and the placement of 11 central gates.
In addition, this phase integrates the sedimentation lagoon or reservoir no.7 with a capacity for 120 thousand cubic meters. With this stage, lateral 6 will come into operation, which will be fed from the YSURA canal.
Caba Romano said that the work, with a view to being delivered in December of this year, has been described as the most important hydraulic project in terms of irrigation in the region and also novel, since it contemplates the insertion of pressurized irrigation.
While in the Multiple Project of the Montegrande Dam, a work financed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration, CABEI, the official reviewed the schedule to be executed during the next month in the different work fronts and later toured the components together with technicians from the Unit Executor of the project on behalf of INDRHI and contractors of the work, with whom she discussed the progress.
The official verified the placement of the asphalt layers on the dam wall, which currently maintains an elevation level of 202 meters above sea level (masl) facing the goal, which is 207 meters above sea level. He indicated that the castings take more time in relation to other actions within the project, since they require waiting for the results of the analysis of the mixture, which are essential for the safety of the work.
He finally toured the service chute and bottom drain; Above the latter, work is being done on the installation of a crane bridge for the assembly and installation of the gates, a structure that will later be paved and will serve as a vehicular road according to the design of the work.
