The Dominican Republic assumed this Wednesday the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Tourism Council (CCT), in order to continue advancing in the strengthening of the regional guidelines established in this organization and to achieve greater development of the tourism industry, which has a great impact in the economies of the member countries of the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The Minister of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, David Collado, received this June 13, the transfer of the flag of the Central American Integration System (SICA), a symbolic act that marks the official transfer of the Pro Tempore Presidency of the Central American Tourism Council ( CST).
Collado replaces his counterpart from Panama, Iván Eskildsen, who provided a report on the achievements made during his administration and will remain in office for six months.
This is the third time that the Dominican Republic has assumed the pro tempore presidency of the CCT, at a time when the country was recognized by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as the first nation in the world to achieve the recovery of tourism, after the pandemic.
The act was held before his counterparts from Costa Rica, William Rodríguez; Nicaragua, Anasha Campbell; Honduras, Yadira Esther Gómez Chavarria and Guatemala, Anayansy Rodríguez.
Also present were Belize, Eddy Herrera and Carolina Cena, El Salvador.
Minister Collado highlighted the importance of working together for the development of tourism, which has become the lifeline of economies.
“The time has come to make the most of the tourism potential that Central America and the Dominican Republic have,” said Minister Collado.
He highlighted that the member countries of SICA represent more than 60 million people, in a large economy of 364 billion, and export more than 60,000 million outside the region, that is, 1,000 dollars per inhabitant.
“We have 18 World Heritage Sites and almost 40% of our forest area. We have everything the new tourist is looking for: culture, sustainability, diversity and good weather”, said Minister Collado.
In the next six months, the regional agenda implemented by the Central American Tourism Integration Secretariat (SITCA) and the Central American Tourism Promotion Agency (CATA) will continue, with the faithful commitment to continue strengthening the pillars that support SICA such as: Democratic Security, Climate Change and Comprehensive Risk Management, Social Integration, Economic Integration and Strengthening of Regional Institutions.
Likewise, under the motto “Adapting regional integration to new challenges”, and consistent with the strategic lines outlined by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX), the Ministry of Tourism will support actions that stimulate and facilitate the sustainable development of tourism in Central America, sharing with the region our successful experience in the area of Responsible Recovery of Post-Covid Tourism, Tourism Promotion and Marketing, and the Tourism Intelligence System.

Esta es la tercera ocasión que República Dominicana asume la presidencia pro tempore del CCT, en momentos en que el país fue reconocido por la Organización Mundial del Turismo (OMT) como la primera nación del mundo en lograr la recuperación del turismo, tras la pandemia. El acto se realizó ante sus homólogos de Costa Rica, William Rodríguez; Nicaragua, Anasha Campbell; Honduras, Yadira Esther Gómez Chavarria y Guatemala, Anayansy Rodríguez. También, estuvieron presentes Belice, Eddy Herrera y Carolina Cena, El Salvador. El ministro Collado destacó la importancia de trabajar unidos en pro del desarrollo del turismo, que se ha convertido en la tabla de salvación de las economías. “Llegó el momento de sacar el mayor provecho del potencial turístico que tiene Centroamérica y República Dominicana”, dijo el ministro Collado. Destacó que los países miembros del SICA representan más de 60 millones de personas, en una gran economía de 364 mil millones, y exportan más de 60,000 millones fuera de la región, es decir 1,000 dólares por habitante. “Contamos con 18 patrimonios de la Humanidad y casi un 40% de nuestra superficie boscosa. Tenemos todo lo que busca el nuevo turista: Cultura, sostenibilidad, diversidad y buen clima”, manifestó el ministro Collado. En los próximos seis meses se dará continuidad a la agenda regional que se implementa desde la Secretaría de Integración Turística Centroamericana (SITCA) y la Agencia de Promoción Turística de Centroamérica (CATA, por sus siglas en inglés), con el fiel compromiso de seguir robusteciendo los pilares que sustentan al SICA como lo son: Seguridad Democrática, Cambio Climático y Gestión Integral del Riesgo, Integración Social, Integración Económica y Fortalecimiento de la Institucionalidad Regional. Asimismo, bajo el lema “Adaptando la integración regional a los nuevos desafíos”, y en congruencia a las líneas estratégicas trazadas por el Ministerio de Relaciones Exteriores (MIREX), el Ministerio de Turismo apoyará acciones que estimulen y faciliten el desarrollo sostenible del turismo en Centroamérica, compartiendo con la región nuestra experiencia exitosa en materia de Recuperación Responsable del Turismo Post Covid, Promoción y Mercadeo Turístico y Sistema de Inteligencia Turística.
