CEDIMAT and ALAP hold second perfusion update symposium

Perfusion is the profession that manages the extracorporeal circulation machine in cardiac surgery and intensive care, which allows blood flow to be maintained to the body’s tissues while the heart and lungs are stopped.

Currently, this profession is growing a lot in Latin America and advanced in updating, for that reason, the Centers for Diagnosis and Advanced Medicine and Medical Conferences and Telemedicine (CEDIMAT) and the Latin American Association of Perfusion (ALAP), held the second Symposium of Update on Cardiovascular Perfusion Central-Caribbean Region.

Brígida Aguerrevere, Coordinator of the Perfusion Department and Director of the Perfusion School at CEDIMAT, highlighted the interest that colleagues from Latin America have in what is happening in the Dominican Republic.

“The platform that CEDIMAT has offered has been limitless, giving a positive response to all the proposals in favor of perfusion in the country and the region”, assured Aguerrevere.

Likewise, Alileny Pérez, president of ALAP, expressed her satisfaction and gratitude with the medical center. “CEDIMAT is the best setting that we could find in the entire region to hold this important event, not only because the perfusion school is located here, but also because it has the technology and international accreditation.”

“A team of professionals from the Hospital Clinic of Barcelona, ​​​​which is the University Hospital, shared a perfusion simulation course for two days prior to the symposium, where simulation scenarios, emergency cases and emotion management were carried out. During the activity, topics such as monitoring of anesthetic depth in ECC, optimal perfusion and GDP, from the operating room to the ICU in ECMO, among others, were presented”, explained Pérez.

After the symposium, five interactive workshops were given: Clinical application of goal-directed perfusion in synergy with the Inspire Family, MUF-Ultrafiltration pediatric and adult modification, Hemoadsorption in ECMO and CEC, Neuromonitoring and Blood Conservation and Clinical application of the concepts, solubility of gases, venous drainage.

Specialists from the area of ​​anesthesia, perfusion, intensive care and surgery gathered at the event.

Likewise, the specialist spoke about the perfusion school, which has graduated three classes since the beginning of her master’s degree, for a total of 14 perfusionists, not only from the Dominican Republic, but also from Chile, Panama, Belize, Ecuador, Colombia and Puerto Rico. Rich.

This symposium, held on July 8 and 9, had an extensive program in which perfusionists from various regions of Latin America participated. It was held in the CEDIMAT Cardiovascular Center Auditorium.
