A currently unidentified young man threw an egg to the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on Monday during a visit to the International Hotel and Restaurant Fair in the city of Lyon.
The egg has bounced off Macron’s shoulder without breaking and the individual has been quickly reduced by the president’s security service.
“If you have something to say to me, let him come,” said Macron after the impact of the egg, according to ‘Le Figaro’. At the moment the exact reason why the young man has attacked the French president is not known.
It is not the first time they have thrown eggs at Macron. In 2017, an egg was broken when it hit his head on a visit to the Agricultural Hall. Nor is it the first attack on the president, who was slapped in the face in June on a visit to the town of Tain. The assailant, Damien Tarel, was sentenced to four months in prison.
Macron is not the first French head of state to be attacked. His predecessor, François Hollande, had flour thrown during a report on substandard housing while he was still a presidential candidate.
