Internal flights resume in Kabul while technical studies continue

Kabul airport has begun to recover some of the activity lost since the Taliban took control of the Afghan capital and, while waiting for international technicians to assess the situation and management of the airfield, internal flights have already been resumed. .

The first flight took place on Saturday and connected Kabul with Mazar-e Sharif, in the north of the country. This Sunday, two other planes have flown from Hamid Karzai International Airport to the cities of Herat and Kandahar, according to the Jaama news agency.

The Taliban, who have included the return to normality at the airport among their promises, have called on Turkey and Qatar to prepare the facilities, deserted since the final departure of the international troops at the end of August.

The Qatari ambassador to Afghanistan, Said Mubarak al Jayarin, announced on Saturday that the Qatari technical task force that has been working on the reopening of the Kabul airport has managed to partially reopen the airfield for the arrival of humanitarian aid flights, which already They have started to arrive despite the security concerns expressed by the Turkish delegation.

Likewise, Al Jayarin explained to the Qatari television channel Al Jazeera that these humanitarian flights are expected to continue in the coming days, while they continue to work to solve some technical problems that will allow “commercial international flights to be operating soon.”

The task force has managed to repair the radar, the communications tower and the Kabul airport runway and has also managed to guarantee safety both inside and outside the facilities.

Qatar has in the last week become the main negotiator with the Taliban, which has had a political office in the country for eight years. The Persian Gulf country has been in talks about a safe opening of the Hamid Karzai International Airport.
