The US rules out new lockdowns despite the advance of the delta variant of the coronavirus

The main person in charge of the fight against the coronavirus in the United States, Anthony Fauci, has ruled out new confinements in the country despite the advance of the delta variant of the coronavirus.

Although he has admitted that “things will get worse”, Fauci has confirmed that the authorities do not consider taking this type of measures again despite the damage caused by the variant, especially among unvaccinated people, as reported by the chain television station ABC.

“I think we will not get to the situation last winter,” he has qualified, however. The number of daily cases nationwide has practically doubled in the last ten days.

The delta variant has caused an increase in cases in much of the world. In Asia, countries such as the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam are now epicenters of the pandemic, prompting some governments to impose new restrictions.

In the United States, vaccination is now also available to any citizen over the age of twelve. In addition, the Government has encouraged vaccination through prizes and rewards.

“We have 100 million people in this country who are likely to be vaccinated but have not done so yet,” lamented Fauci, who estimates that 58 percent of Americans have received at least one dose. The state of Florida currently has one of the worst outbreaks in the country.

However, local authorities have withdrawn the mandatory nature of masks in schools, leaving this decision in the hands of parents.

Since the pandemic began, the country has verified more than 35 million cases and 613,000 deaths, making it one of the states most affected by the pandemic in the world.
