Facebook advances in the integration of WhatsApp chats with Facebook Messenger

Facebook continues to work on integrating WhatsApp with its messaging app Facebook Messenger, nine months after the information that pointed to it, now with a connection that would allow members of both applications to communicate optionally.

Developer Alessandro Palluzi has shared on Twitter a hidden change discovered within the messaging application Facebook Messanger that points to Facebook making progress in supporting the integration of WhatsApp chats.

Palluzzi has made it possible for Facebook Messenger to recognize content such as a WhatsApp conversation and has made a mock message to show its interface -similar to Messenger but with green text boxes-, although at the moment it is not possible exchange messages between both services.

This information comes nine months after the initial leak by the same developer that Messenger would allow communication in its app. Then, WABetaInfo echoed this novelty, which would allow the use of WhatsApp within Facebook Messenger if the user requests it.

Then, Palluzi found a database where Facebook can save certain data from a user’s WhatsApp such as blocked users, the phone number of a contact, the message counter or if the chat is archived, but in no case the content of messages, group members, or profile photos.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has plans to integrate Facebook with Instagram and WhatsApp for more than two years, according to leaks from The New Yok Times, and has already taken steps with the option to share WhatsApp ‘States’ as’ Stories’ on Instagram.
