The open investigation into the prominent ally of former President Donald Trump, Matt Gaetz, for having an inappropriate sexual encounter with a minor has advanced this Thursday after it was learned that his associate, Joel Greenberg, may reach a plea agreement with him US Department of Justice.
The attorneys for Joel Greenberg, a former Seminole County prosecutor in the state of Florida, said Thursday that they are working on a plea agreement, which could occur before May 15, and in the event that not materialize, there would be a trial in July, as reported by CNN.
Likewise, sources close to the investigation have told the US media that they are seeking to determine if the Republican congressman accepted the payment of travel and women in exchange for political favors.
Gaetz has denied these allegations, saying in the Washington Examiner newspaper this week that “I have never, never paid for sex, and second, as a grown man, I have not slept with a 17-year-old.”
