Bolivia has shown its “surprise” and “bewilderment” by the words of the President of Chile, Sebastián Piñera, in relation to the arrest of former President Jeanine Áñez and has vindicated “the principle of non-interference in internal affairs.”
Piñera, in an interview, questioned the “independence of powers” in the Andean nation and pointed out that “it cannot be that Justice is subordinate to the government of the day.”
In a statement, the Bolivian Foreign Ministry, which has described Chile as a “brother” country, has stressed that the Latin American country “complies with all the rights and guarantees provided in the Constitution and international treaties on Human Rights.”
In this sense, it has invited the international community to comply with the Declaration on the Principles of International Rights regarding Friendship Relations and Cooperation between States in accordance with the United Nations Charter, “respecting the free determination of the peoples and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs “.
Áñez has been in preventive prison since March 15, accused of sedition, terrorism and conspiracy for her role in the framework of the post-election crisis of 2019.
