The Los Angeles Lakers have succumbed at home to San Antonio Spurs (109-118) with an unremarkable performance by Marc Gasol, while the Timberwolves of Juancho Hernangómez and Ricky Rubio are still in free fall and have conceded their sixth straight loss against Portland Trail Blazers (135-117).
After four straight victories that had taken them to the top of the Western Conference, the Lakers fell to the Spurs, who came to Staples Center with more losses than wins this regular season.
Marc Gasol started and contributed 4 rebounds, 1 block and 1 steal in 13 minutes of play, being outmatched by rival center LaMarcus Aldridge, who was the best of the Texan team with 28 points, seconded by DeMar DeRozan (19).
The ‘double-double’ achieved by both LeBron James (27 and 12 assists), Anthony Davis (23 and 10 rebounds) and Kyle Kuzma (13 and 10 rebounds) was sterile in front of an opponent who knew how to control the final minutes to conquer a of the most demanding courts in the NBA.
Without leaving the West, the Timberwolves are already the worst team in the Conference along with the Memphis Grizzlies, both with a 2-6 record, after conceding another severe loss at the Moda Center in Portland.
The contribution of Juancho Hernangómez (12 points and 6 rebounds) and the assists of Ricky Rubio (10) were once again anecdotal against some Blazers who had the most lethal version of Damian Lillard (39 points and 7 triples) and who relaxed in the fourth quarter, allowing Minnesota to make up the result a bit.
