Democrats win a new US Senate seat with Warnock’s narrow victory in Georgia

Democrat Jon Ossoff also slightly leads his Republican rival David Perdue

Georgia Secretary of State Celebrates “Tremendous Turnout” in Election With Nearly Five Million Voters

The Democratic Party would have already obtained one of the two seats that were disputed this Tuesday in the second round of the elections in the state of Georgia, with the tight triumph of one of its candidates, the Reverend Raphael Warnock, which according to media estimates Americans, would have obtained 50.5 percent of the vote against his Republican rival Kelly Loeffler.

The race to reach the last two seats for the state of Georgia in the United States Senate is being as close as expected, with 98 percent of the votes counted, it remains to be seen if it will be Republican David Perdue who revalidates his place in the camera or although the democrat Jon Ossoff will occupy a position that seems crucial for the next Administration of Joe Biden.

For his part, Ossoff has so far been cutting the meager distances that have been separating him from Perdue to take the lead with 50.1 percent of the vote, obtaining just 9,500 votes more than his rival.

Georgia’s Secretary of State, Republican Brad Raffensperger, celebrated Tuesday’s “tremendous turnout”, which could reach, he said, nearly 4.6 million voters.

“We are a very competitive state. We will have to wait and see how all this ends,” said Raffensperger, who did not want to speculate about the fate of the votes that have not yet been counted, among which there are 17,000 who come from abroad and of the military delegations abroad, whose results will not be known until Friday.

The outcome of these elections is essential for the future of the next Joe Biden Administration, since the Democrats need these last two seats to control the Senate, as they already do with the House of Representatives.

If the Democrats prevail in Georgia, they would get 50 senators, the same as the Republicans, although they would have the tiebreaker vote in future legislative debates of the one who will be president of the Senate and vice president of the United States, Kamala Harris.

“It’s going to be a long night,” said the head of Georgia’s voting system, Gabriel Sterling, who has predicted a day with constant ups and downs for both parties.

Sterling has explained that much of the votes that have not yet been counted are in metropolitan Atlanta counties, whose results would favor Democrats, as well as other ballots in the smaller conservative territories of the state.

This is the case of Gwinnett County, a suburb of Atlanta, whose authorities have announced, reports CNN, that they will continue with the recount on Wednesday morning, with about 5,000 votes yet to be counted. As is Fulton County, with another 4,000 outstanding ballots.

For his part, the president of the United States, Donald Trump, who during the weekend held a massive rally in the city of Dalton, in northwest Georgia, to stoke the Republican vote, has once again slipped accusations of electoral fraud in their social networks.

“It seems that they are organizing a large ‘voter dump’ against the Republican candidates. Waiting to see how many votes they need?”, The still head of the White House asked on his Twitter account.

This second round is taking place after the same contenders failed to obtain 50 percent of the votes necessary to win the November 3 elections, after some five million voters, out of the 7.2 million qualified in the state , went to the polls on that occasion.
