Hilary Duff Announces Disney Cancels Lizzie McGuire Reboot

The worst omens have come true, Disney definitively cancels the reboot of ‘Lizzie McGuire’. The project, paralyzed since the beginning of this year, had been in that state since production was stopped, he thought for Disney +. Finally, fans of the iconic Disney Channel series will not be able to meet the character played by Hilary Duff.

It was Duff herself who announced the definitive cancellation. The actress has stated in a long text on Instagram, “I know that efforts and negotiations have been present at all times to make a reboot that worked, but, unfortunately, and despite the great effort made, that is not going to happen” he explained.

“I want any Lizzie reboot to be honest and authentic about who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves,” she added Duff. “‘Lizzie McGuire’ fans have high expectations for any new story [from the female lead],” a Disney spokesperson said in a statement.

“Until we are sure that we can meet those expectations, we have decided to delay the project and have informed the cast that we will not move forward with what we had planned,” he added.

Since the stoppage in January of this year, the ‘Lizzie McGuire’ reboot had little chance of continuation. Production was halted when Terri Minsky, creator and main promoter of the return of fiction, left the project due to creative differences.

Both she and Duff herself sought to create a series with a more adult focus, something that clashes with the family vision of Disney +. Neither has the campaign started by the actress, in which she asked that, as happened with ‘High Fidelity’ or ‘Love, Victor’, the reboot go to Hulu to maintain her adult spirit.
