The Pope will resume his international agenda, which has so far been suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, in March 2021 when he is scheduled to visit Iraq, as confirmed by the director of the Vatican press office, Matteo Bruni.
“Accepting the invitation of the Republic of Iraq and the local Church, the Pope will make an apostolic trip to the country from March 5 to 8,” Bruni assured.
Francisco is scheduled to visit in addition to the capital Baghdad, the Plain of Ur, on the banks of the Euphrates where tradition places the birth of Abraham, as well as other cities such as Erbil, Mosul and Qaraqosh. The complete program has not yet been detailed and will be adapted to the evolution of the health emergency.
