Former US President Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle, are the most admired man and woman in the world, according to a YouGov study that places a former White House tenant at the top of the list for the first time annually since 2014.
Obama is ranked number one thanks to the admiration expressed by 8.9 percent of those surveyed – a total of 45,000 in 42 countries. It supersedes the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, who falls to the second position with 8.3 percent; one ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping, who is at 5.1 percent.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan, Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, AliExpress founder Jack Ma, Dalai Lama, Tesla founder Elon Musk, and American actor Keanu Reeves round out the top ten. posts on the list.
For her part, Michelle Obama heads the list of women thanks to the admiration professed by 7.8 percent of those interviewed, ahead of actress Angelina Jolie (6 percent) and Queen Elizabeth II of England ( 5.7 percent).
The top ten are taken by people from the world of entertainment, culture and music, with names like Oprah Winfrey, Jennifer Lopez, Emma Watson, Scarlett Johansson, Taylor Swift and Shakira. In eighth place, Chinese first lady Peng Liyuan slipped in with 3.4 percent.
The Chinese presidential couple, however, is not a prophet in their land and does not top the list in the Asian giant, where the most admired man is the agronomist Yuan Longping and the woman scientist Tu Youyou, Nobel Prize in Medicine.
TRUMP, BEHIND OBAMA
The current president of the United States, Donald Trump, is the 15th most admired man in the world, with 2.8 percent. He ranks behind his predecessor in the White House in every country except for one, Russia, where Trump ranks 11th, four ahead of Obama.
The former president is the most admired man in 22 of the 42 countries and territories analyzed by the YouGov firm.
