Francis Ford Coppola to release a new montage of The Godfather III in December to celebrate its 30th anniversary

‘The Godfather. Part III ‘is probably one of the most controversial films in the history of cinema. The final installment of the mafia saga was a disappointment for many viewers, who did not consider that the film was up to the standards of its bedridden predecessors. 30 years after its premiere, Francis Ford Coppola will release a new version of the film.

Paramount Pictures has announced the premiere of the new version, which will be titled ‘Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone’. The film includes the original vision of Coppola and the screenwriter Puzo del final. The production has been restored and will be seen in select theaters in December. After passing through the theaters, it will be available on digital platforms and in physical format.

“‘Mario Puzo’s The Godfather, Coda: The Death of Michael Corleone’ is an acknowledgment of my favorite Mario title and our original intentions for what became ‘The Godfather: Part III,'” said the director. “For this version of the ending I have created a new beginning and ending and rearranged some scenes, takes and music tracks. With these changes and the footage and sound restored, for me it is a more appropriate conclusion to ‘The Godfather’ and ‘ The Godfather ‘: Part II, “he explained.

The saga began in 1972 with a cast consisting of Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, James Caan, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton and John Cazale. That first installment won three Oscars for best picture, actor for Brando and adapted screenplay. The second film came in 1974 and won six statuettes including Best Picture, Director and Supporting Actor for Robert De Niro. The Godfather: Part III was released in 1990 and garnered seven Academy Award nominations. The plot centers on Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), already approaching 60 years, in his search for a successor to his empire.
