Google Messages app reaches 1 billion downloads on the Play Store

The Google Messaging application has exceeded one billion downloads in the Play Store digital store, despite not being the native SMS and MMS messaging application on most Android devices.

Android smartphones include an application to send SMS and MMS to other contacts. Generally, this software is not usually owned by Google, but by the specific manufacturer of the mobile device.

In the Play Store, however, Messages has reached one billion downloads. This is a service that has improved in recent months with the inclusion of the rich communication services protocol, which combines messaging with chats.

Google started distributing its RCS-based messaging service in the middle of last year, replacing its traditional messaging ‘app’, which operates independently of mobile operators.
