The Ecuadorian city of Guayaquil begins to use cardboard coffins for victims of the coronavirus

The Mayor of the city of Guayaquil, in Ecuador, has started using cardboard coffins for the fatalities of the new coronavirus, which has already claimed 172 lives in the country.

“We thank the Association of Cartoneros for their contribution with the first 200 of 2,000 mortar boxes of pressed cardboard. They will be of great help to provide a dignified burial to people who died during this health emergency,” said the Mayor’s Office through his account. official on Twitter.

The coffins will be distributed in the Jardines de la Esperanza and Parque de la Paz cemeteries and, if necessary, will also be delivered to Criminalística, of the National Police. Another 150 coffins will be managed by the Terminal Terrestre Foundation and were delivered on Saturday afternoon to the Guayaquil City Council.

Ecuador has reported 3,465 positive cases of coronavirus and a total of 172 deaths. The infected discharged are a total of 100, according to official figures.
