The Iranian government has announced this Saturday that 139 people have died from coronavirus in the last hours in the country, up to a total of 2,517 deaths from the pandemic.
Likewise, the authorities have confirmed 3,076 new cases of the disease, bringing the total number of infections registered to 35,408, according to the estimates provided by the Iranian Ministry of Health. A total of 11,679 people have already been discharged.
Iran, the Middle East country most affected by the pandemic, has called on the United States to lift international sanctions to improve the response to the coronavirus, although at the same time it has also insisted that it still has thousands of free beds in hospitals and has defended its management capacity.
In this sense, the Iranian Government has branded this Friday as “inhumane policy” the announcement by the United States about sanctions against 20 other people and companies for their links with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and several Iraqi militias.
“Imposing new sanctions as the Iranians deal with the coronavirus and amid growing calls for an end to US economic terrorism is another example of the inhumane policy of the United States,” said spokesman for the Iranian mission to the United Nations, Alireza. Miryusefi.
