The Ministry of Health of China has confirmed on Saturday 3,070 deaths from the outbreak of the new coronavirus in the country and 80,651 infected.
Chinese health authorities have confirmed 99 new cases and another 28 killed by the coronavirus, all of them in Hubei province, where Wuhan is located – the center of the coronavirus.
On Friday, 99 suspected cases have been registered and 1,678 patients have been discharged after recovering, while the number of serious cases has decreased by 248 with a total of 5,489 people.
In total, of the 80,651 affected, 22,177 are still under treatment and 55,404 have been discharged. Chinese health authorities have indicated that 502 people are suspected of being infected by the virus.
Specifically, they have investigated 26,730 people who had close contact with infected patients. Of these, 4,773 have completed the medical observation on Friday.
Mainland China has presented 24 imported cases on Friday, of which 17 have been registered in Gansu Province, three in Beijing, three in Shanghai and one in Guangdong, for a total of 60, according to the Ministry of Health Chinese.
As of Friday, 107 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Hong Kong and ten in Macao. In total, 51 patients have been discharged after recovering in Hong Kong and ten in Macao.
Although the epicenter of the coronavirus is in Wuhan and most cases are registered in China, cases have been detected in other countries in Southeast Asia, Europe, America and the Middle East. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the international health emergency at the end of January and has asked the international community to redouble its efforts.
Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough and shortness of breath. In more severe cases, the infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.
The data of deaths due to the outbreak of the new coronavirus exceed those recorded due to the outbreak of SARS or acute respiratory syndrome that was first detected in 2002. In 2003, more than 600 people had died in China because of this virus, while the global figure reached 765 deceased.
