Brazil confirms its first case of the new coronavirus, the first in Latin America

Brazil.- Brazil confirmed on Tuesday night its first registered case of the new coronavirus, the first in Latin America, which until now was the only part of the world without confirmed cases, local media reported.

According to the Ministry of Health, the man, 61 years old and originally from São Paulo, in southern Brazil, has recently been in Italy, in the region of Lombardy, one of the main focuses of the disease in the European country , along with Veneto.

This Brazilian citizen was working in northern Italy between February 9 and 21. Brazilian health authorities have reported that he is well, with only mild symptoms, so he will remain isolated in his own home.

The case has been treated at the Albert Einstein Israeli Hospital, in the city of São Paulo. On the afternoon of this Tuesday, this person went to the center where he had a first positive test, which was later confirmed by a reference research laboratory in Brazil.
