Frozen II has become the highest grossing animated film of all time. The second part of the adventures of the Arendelle sisters has raised $ 1,326 million at the global box office, exceeding 1,281 million from its predecessor Frozen.
According to Variety, these figures beat a record for the animation genre, placing the Disney film above other blockbusters such as The Incredibles, the Pixar film that raised $ 1,243 million since its premiere in 2004.
Still, the film Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee has not surpassed the remake of The Lion King by Jon Favreau, which premiered in the summer of 2019 and raised $ 1,656 million at the global box office. A film that, despite its intense use of CGI technology, the House of the Mouse does not consider animation but a real action remake, so it would not take away the position of Frozen II as a blockbuster animated film.
Since its premiere in November 2019, Frozen II has been among the three highest grossing films of the year, along with two productions also Disney brand: Avengers: Endgame – which is the highest grossing film in history with a collection of 2,797 millions of dollars worldwide – and the aforementioned The Lion King.
Thus, there are already six Disney movies that saw the light 2019 and that have exceeded 1,000 million dollars, a number that will soon amount to seven with the rise of Skywalker, which premiered on December 19 and that has already been 918 million raised … although part of them are already in 2020.
