Pompeo asks the international community to increase pressure on Iran for its “nuclear extortion”

The US Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, warned on Thursday that all countries should increase pressure on Iran in response to the “nuclear extortion” that the Ayatollah regime has undertaken with the abandonment of the commitments contemplated in the pact signed in 2015 with the 5 + 1 group (United States, Russia, China, France, United Kingdom and Germany).

“The expansion of Iran’s activities that could be nuclear proliferation raises fear of the possibility that Iran is positioning itself to have the option of rapid nuclear evasion,” the head of US diplomacy said in a statement.

“Now is the time for all nations to reject the nuclear extortion of the regime and take serious steps to increase pressure. Iran’s numerous and continuing nuclear provocations demand such action,” he concluded.

Iran has taken a further step this week in abandoning nuclear commitments under the 2015 international pact with the injection of gas into the centrifuges of the Fordow underground nuclear plant and with the announcement that it will have new advanced centrifuges.

Since the president of the United States, Donald Trump, decided in May 2018 to leave his country from the 2015 nuclear agreement, the US government has reactivated sanctions against the Iran regime, especially against its oil sector.

The Islamic Republic, for its part, has been breaching several of the nuclear commitments contemplated in that pact, while at the same time calling on the European signatories of the agreement to guarantee commercial relations with Tehran and that the United States once again commits to the signed text .
