New home run record; Braves share leadership with Phillies

Houston (USA), .- The power of the batting showed its best expression in the day of professional baseball of the National League after the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Phillies of Philadelphia established a new brand in the history of the elderly.

The offensive power of the Diamondbacks was expressed in the three home runs that they hit at the start of the game, in which eight times they sent the ball out of the park, being a new team brand, and won by 13-8 to the Phillies.

The game, which more closely resembled the traditional “Home Run Derby,” had center fielder Scott Kingery fire two of the Phillies’ five homers. Thus, a record of the Major Leagues was imposed, with 13 homers during a game in a combined form.

Often, five homers would be enough to win a game. It was not the case in Philadelphia, where the Diamondbacks turned the game into a kind of batting practice.

Center fielder Jarrod Dyson, shortstop Ketel Marte and left fielder David Peralta blew off the wall in consecutive turns during the first inning against starter Jerad Eickhoff.

Venezuelan third baseman Eduardo Escobar became the first Diamondbacks player to shoot homers from different sides of the plate in consecutive innings.

His compatriot Ildemaro Vargas also managed two homers, Alex Ávila got one and Arizona made the seats behind the gardens at Citizens Ball Park the ideal place to get a ball as a souvenir.

Not everyone accepted the gift. Disgusted, a follower of the Phillies threw a ball back to the field.

Eickhoff (3-4) accepted two more homers in two runs before leaving in the fourth inning with the loss, when the Diamondbacks won by 7-3.

Arizona hit two homers in the fifth inning to set a club record, which was set with seven in a duel.

The triumph was for reliever Zack Godley (3-4), who worked three innings and two-thirds, gave up two hits without scoring, walked two and drew a strike.

The explosive batting of the Diamondbacks had the Latin American contribution to Mars that went from 5-3 with two runs scored and one towed. Peralta 4-1 with one scored and one pushed, Escobar 5-4 with three runs and five RBIs, Vargas 5-2 with two runs and three produced.

The Phillies also had the support of Dominicans Jean Segura had 5-1 with two runs scored and one pushed and Maikel Franco 5-1 with a RBI.

The Venezuelan Ronald Acuña Jr. got a grand slam, Ozzie Albies added two home runs, and the Atlanta Braves beat the Pirates 13-7 in a duel that was tense after the ousting of Pittsburgh starter Joe Musgrove, a pitch in the first episode.

The Braves totaled five homers, including one of two laps by Nick Markakis and one by Freddie Freeman, who also produced two runs. Markakis hit four hits and produced four runs.

The Dominican Starling Marte hit a pair of homers and totaled four RBIs for Pittsburgh.
Atlanta, which has won four games in a row, took advantage of the Phillies’ loss to reach the lead in the Eastern Division of the Old Circuit with a score of 37-29.
While the Pirates are on a four-game losing streak.

Musgrove hit Josh Donaldson with a pitching in the first inning. When Donaldson began to advance to the initial, he made words with the pitcher, took a few steps towards the mound and pushed the Venezuelan receiver Elías Díaz, who was trying to stop him.

The umpires conferred and announced the expulsions of Musgrove and Donaldson.

Clint Hurdle, manager of the Pirates, was also expelled by the umpire of the plate Brian Gorman, after protesting the decision to throw to Musgrove, whose launch hardly touched the flannel of Donaldson. The players entered from the caves and the bullpens after the confrontation, but the altercation did not happen to major.

Ryan McMahon hit a one-run lead in the eighth, and the Colorado Rockies rallied to beat the Chicago Cubs 6-5.

Ian Desmond fired a 486-foot homer, while Nolan Arenado and Charlie Blackmon each also homered for Colorado, which he lost by 0-4, but he rowed his ninth consecutive win at home.

Anthony Rizzo, Kyle Schwarber and David Bote hit homers for the Cubs.

Starter Michael Wacha returned to the rotation of the St. Louis Cardinals and immediately felt his dominance from the mound as the leader that led them to a 4-1 victory against the Miami Marlins.

Wacha worked six scoreless innings and with the support of the bullpen and a timely batting, the Cardinals got the victory that allowed them to break the streak of three consecutive defeats. (EFE)
