MacKenzie Bezos donates half of his fortune to charitable causes

MacKenzie joins the group of 204 richest people in the world who, since the beginning of Giving Pledge, have made a moral commitment to share their fortunes throughout their lives.

This year, the list also includes the founder of the Tesla company, Elon Musk; the co-founder of WhatsApp, Brian Acton, and the financier David Harding.

Giving Pledge is an organization created in 2010 by investor and billionaire Warren E. Buffett with the couple Bill and Melinda Gates.

The initiative seeks the global commitment of the richest people and couples in the world, with the aim of creating a greater culture of donations to help with the most important problems of society.

In addition to giving more than half of their wealth to philanthropy or charitable causes, the signatories of the promise come together to learn, share knowledge and continue to improve the effectiveness of donations.

Jeff Bezos, the richest man in the world ahead of Bill Gates, said Tuesday on his personal Twitter account to be proud of his ex-wife.

Bezos wrote that MacKenzie “is going to be amazing, reflective and effective in his path in philanthropy.”

MacKenzie and Jeff Bezos, who married in the 1990s in New York, shortly before moving to Seattle, on the Pacific coast, announced that they were divorcing last January, after 25 years of marriage.

The fortune of the founder of Amazon, who has not yet joined the list of donors of the organization, is currently estimated at 114,000 million dollars.
