San Juan, .- Twelve families remain incommunicado due to landslides caused by heavy rains during the last hours in that municipality in the interior of Puerto Rico and large areas of the island.
The Municipality of Utuado informed through a statement that the heavy rains that have fallen in the past hours in the central area of the country caused several landslides in the area, specifically in the Tetuán neighborhood.
“The goal is to open the way as soon as possible, since we have about a dozen families incommunicado,” said the mayor of Utuado, Ernesto Irrizarry.
“The land is unstable and we are taking preventive measures,” said the first utuadeño executive, who personally attends the work with equipment and personnel of the municipality.
The National Meteorological Service (SNM) issued a flood warning on Monday for several municipalities on the island, including Añasco, Aguada, Rincon, Barranquitas, Jayuya, Ciales, Orocovis, Aguadilla and Utuado.
The SNM bulletin warned of urban flooding, landslides near steep terrain and the possibility of lightning strikes.
The state Electric Power Authority (AEE) reported cuts in supply in several municipalities of the Caribbean island. (EFEUSA)
