The UN denounces deaths and displacement of civilians by combats in Syria

United Nations, .- The UN denounced on Thursday the numerous deaths of civilians and the massive displacement of population that is causing the escalation of hostilities in the northwest of Syria.
The organization, which declared itself “deeply concerned,” said that during the past 48 hours at least seven people have died in attacks in Idlib province and two others in Hama, with dozens injured in those areas and in the region. of Aleppo.

According to the United Nations, more than 300 civilians have lost their lives as a result of hostilities in northwestern Syria during the last three months, 60 of them in April.

In addition, the fighting is causing large-scale population displacement from northern Hama and south of Idlib, spokesman Stéphane Dujarric told reporters.

The UN estimates that some 323,000 people have been forced to leave their homes since September of last year.

“The United Nations reminds all parties to the conflict of their obligations under international humanitarian and human rights law to ensure the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure,” said Dujarric.

Although the UN did not point to any of the sides for the attacks, according to the Syrian Observatory of Human Rights in the fighting, Russian airplanes, allies of the Syrian Government, have participated with several aerial bombardments.

One of them, on the outskirts of the town of Kansafra, in Idlib, killed four members of the same family, including two children, according to the NGO.

For its part, the state agency SANA said that one civilian was killed and four others were wounded by a missile “launched by terrorists” who are stationed in the demilitarized zone agreed in northern Syria against the coastal province of Latakia, on the shores of Mediterranean.

Russia, ally of the Syrian president, Bashar al-Assad, and Turkey, supporter of the opposition, sealed a pact last September for which the demilitarized zone around the province of Idlib was established to stop a government offensive on the last region that escapes Damascus control.

This cordon of security, in which there are violations practically every day by the Syrian Government and the radical groups that are in the area, also covers some areas of the provinces of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia. (EFEUSA)
