However, Vico C, Tego Calderón and Don Omar did not attend the event.

The transmission of the first edition of the awards was in charge of Telemundo and managed to be seen in 52 countries.
The musical show also grants a musical scholarship to students of the Escuela Libre de Música de San Juan.

During the first years of the genre, which was born in the most marginalized and poor sectors of Puerto Rico with Caribbean influences and European electronic sounds, it was known as “underground”, since the theme of the songs always referred to sex and violence street

Despite the fact that the “underground” and later the reggaeton were hugely successful, they also provoked some social protest by the aggressiveness and sexual content of their lyrics, and even came to demand, with relative success, the withdrawal of certain discs from the stores.

Despite this limitation, the reguetoneros joined and changed the style of their songs so that people of all ages could accept them and continue highlighting the musical rhythm.EFE
