Miami, Ibero-American gastronomic capital, adds to important university

 Miami, .- The Culinary Institute of Miami (MCI) joined by an agreement signed on Tuesday to the sponsors of the program of events organized to celebrate that this city of Florida is the Ibero-American capital of gastronomy in 2019.

The agreement was signed by Eduardo J. Padrón, president of the Miami Dade College (MDC), to which the institute belongs, and Rafael Ansón, president of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy (AIBG).

“We are extremely honored to have been selected as one of the venues of this extraordinary event, which guarantees Miami a place as an international gastronomic destination, and the MDC as the supplier of the best emerging culinary talents in the world,” said the MDC president. .

The Spaniard Ansón pointed out that “Miami is undoubtedly the core of the Americas” and “its combinatory art of gastronomic potential, its culture and its cuisine” will emerge during the activities on the occasion of the capital.

Miami is the fifth metropolis selected by the AIBG as Ibero-American capital, after São Paulo (2018), Buenos Aires (2017), the Mexican Guanajuato (2016) and the Spanish Córdoba (2015).
The signing ceremony was attended by Zurab Pololikashvili, secretary general of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) of the United Nations.

Under the agreement signed today, MCI will provide the venues, production services and promotion for various AIBG events that will take place in October.

Among them, a meeting that will bring together in Miami the most important chefs in the world to carry out an exchange of knowledge, the General Assembly of the Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy and the Miami Mixology Soirée.

This last event will be a meeting point for the best mixologists and experts in spirits, during which a contest will be held with the most prestigious bartenders in the world, to choose the most representative cocktail of the essence and values ​​of Miami.
The Miami cocktail is intended to be a symbol of the city, as are the Manhattan and San Francisco cocktails of theirs.
The Ibero-American Academy of Gastronomy is a non-profit cultural association that was born in 2009 and aims to promote “the research, dissemination and protection of kitchens and gastronomic activities of the different regions and American peoples.”

It also deals with “taking care of the purity of its traditions, supporting its modernization and promoting comprehensive actions in the field of international cooperation and solidarity.” (EFEUSA)
