Rachel Weisz and David Harbor negotiate to join the cast of Black Widow

Los Angeles, .- The actors Rachel Weisz and David Harbor are in negotiations to join the cast of “Black Widow”, a new film from the Marvel film universe starring Scarlett Johansson, Variety magazine reported today.

Although the agreements have not been formalized, negotiations are advanced and are expected to come to fruition as there is strong interest on both sides, the publication said.

Weisz was nominated for the Oscar recently for her work on “The Favorite”, while Harbor debuts this month the new version of “Hellboy” and in July will launch the third season of the series “Stranger Things”.

The Australian Cate Shortland, known for works like “Lore” or “Berlin Syndrome”, is chosen by the Marvel studio to direct the film.

Shortland, for which Johansson personally bet, finally took the cat to the water after the studio opted for a small group of selected, among which were Amma Asante (“Belle”), Maggie Betts (“Novitiate”), Melanie Laurent (“Galveston”) and Kimberly Peirce (“Boys Do not Cry”).

Jac Schaeffer is the screenwriter of the film, whose story presumably will be developed before the events of the first “Avengers”, released in 2012.

Johansson will play the Russian superhero Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, one of the best spies and killers in the world. The first appearance of the character was in “Iron Man 2” (2010).
The actress will play again Romanoff in “Avengers: Endgame”, possibly the most anticipated film of the year, which opens later this month.

“Black Widow” will be the second Marvel film with an absolute protagonist after “Captain Marvel”, which has just surpassed the 1,000 million dollars of collection worldwide.

“Captain Marvel” focuses on the figure of the Air Force pilot Carol Danvers (Brie Larson), a woman who obtains a series of powers that make her one of the most powerful characters -perhaps, the most- Marvel universe and that must discover its true identity in full battle between two alien races.
