Denzel Washington, Frances McDormand and Joel Coen plan “Macbeth” tape

Los Angeles, .- The actors Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand are in negotiations with the director and scriptwriter Joel Coen to prepare a new adaptation to the big screen of the classic of Shakespeare “Macbeth”, informed today the specialized media Deadline.

Scott Rudin, habitual collaborator of the Coen brothers, would appear as producer of a project that is still in the initial phase and tentative of its development and that would distribute the company A24 worldwide.

The excessive ambition and political intrigue of “Macbeth”, one of the great jewels of the English playwright William Shakespeare, have reached the cinema on several occasions.

These include the adaptation directed by Orson Welles (“Macbeth”, 1948), the Japanese reinterpretation of the filmmaker Akira Kurosawa (“Kumonosu-jô”, 1957), or the recent film by filmmaker Justin Kurzel with Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard leading his cast (“Macbeth”, 2015).

If the conversations about this project came to fruition, this new look at “Macbeth” would have a widely successful and recognized team in Hollywood.

Washington has been nominated nine times to the Oscars and managed to win two statuettes: best supporting actor for “Glory” (1989) and best actor for “Training Day” (2001).

McDormand is also a double winner of the awards of the Academy of Hollywood, since of the five nominations she has achieved throughout her career she won the best actress category for “Fargo” (1996) and “Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri “(2017).

For his part, Joel Coen, who is married to McDormand, has formed with his brother Ethan Coen one of the most applauded tandems of contemporary cinema.
The Coens have four Oscars in their showcase: best original script for “Fargo”, and best film, best direction and best script adapted for “No Country for Old Men” (2007).

Although very few details of the possible film about “Macbeth” are known, Ethan Coen does not appear for now linked to this project. (EFEUSA)
