The comedian James Corden will once again present the Tony awards gala

New York, .- The British actor and comedian James Corden will present for the second time the Tony awards gala, announced on Tuesday the organization of the great awards of Broadway, which celebrate its 73rd edition this year.

The nominations will be made public at the Lincoln Center in New York on April 30 and the awards ceremony will be on June 9 at the iconic Radio City Music Hall in the city, from where the event will be broadcast live on the CBS channel .

Corden, who in 2012 won the Tony for best leading role for his performance in the play “One Man, Two Guvnors”, debuted as master of ceremonies in 2016 at this same gala, whose televised program earned him an Emmy Award.

The comedian is very popular in the United States, where since 2015 he has presented the program “The Late Late Show”, which includes video segments known as “Carpool Karaoke”, in which he invites leading entertainment figures to sing in his car.
Corden, who presented the Grammy Music Awards in 2017 and 2018, was delighted to return to lead the delivery of the Tony and, quoted in a statement, said he takes the Broadway community “close to the heart.”

The organizers stressed that Corden “is not only a beloved talent, he is also a veteran of the stage and has a true passion for Broadway”, so at the ceremony “anything can happen, and probably will happen”.

Among the aspirants this year, prior official nomination and in the absence of a couple of committee meetings that decide which meet the requirements, are works like “The Lifespan of a Fact,” “The Cher Show” or “Pretty Woman: The Musical” , which have marked the last theatrical season.

Last year, the independent musical “The Band’s Visit” swept away taking away 10 of the 11 statuettes that it aspired to in front of more commercial ones, including “SpongeBob SquarePants”, based on the film of this character, who won a prize.

This winning work, highly acclaimed by critics and discreet at the box office, told the story of a band of Egyptian musicians who lands by mistake in Israel and was also based on a film. (EFEUSA)
