The Baltimore Orioles and the Los Angeles Dodgers reported that during the 2019 season they will wear in their respective uniforms the patches with the numbers that were worn by legendary Hall of Famers Frank Robinson and Don Newcombe, recently deceased.
The Orioles will pay tribute to the Robinson icon this season with a patch of number 20 orange and black background on one of the sleeves of their uniforms.
Robinson, who passed away on February 7 at 83, was with the Baltimore club nearly a quarter of his career in the Major Leagues for four decades, after being a player, manager and manager.
Among his many achievements are the Triple Crown and the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the American League with the Orioles in 1966.
In addition, he helped the team to conquer the World Series of 1966 and 1970 and was the first black driver in the history of the franchise.

The Robinson patch in the Orioles’ manga will be accompanied by the special “MLB 150” patch that each team of the Grand Tent will wear to recognize the 150 years of the franchise now known as the Reds, which was founded in 1869.
For its part, the Dodgers will also honor the legacy of the great pitcher Newcombe, who died last Tuesday at age 92, wearing a commemorative patch on their uniforms with the number “36”, according to the announcement made Thursday by the president of the National League team, Stan Kasten.
Newcombe, who along with Jackie Robinson and Roy Campanella helped open the way for African-American players to the major leagues, played eight of his 10 seasons in the majors with the Dodgers, first in Brooklyn and then in Los Angeles.
The Dodgers had already used commemorative patches in the past to honor the memory of former players such as Jim Gilliam (1978), Tim Crews (1993), Don Drysdale (1993), Campanella (1993), Pee Wee Reese (1999) and Duke Snider (1993). 2011).
