They assassinate the mayor after his inauguration in the Mexican state of Oaxaca

The mayor of the Mexican municipality of Tlaxiaco, Alejandro Aparicio, was assassinated today in an armed attack after having taken possession of his position, informed the Attorney General of the Mexican state of Oaxaca.

“I strongly condemn the attack against the municipal president of Tlaxiaco,” the governor of Oaxaca, Alejandro Murat, said in his official Twitter account.

The Prosecutor’s Office has confirmed the arrest of the person responsible for the killing of Aparicio, a member of the Movimiento Regeneración Nacional (Morena), political force of Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, the governor said.

The first inquiries indicate that the mayor was killed by several shots when he was traveling the streets of Tlaxiaco after the inauguration and that in the attack two of his regidores were injured.

Presumably, the people accompanying the mayor of Tlaxiaco arrested the alleged murderer and was close to lynching him but the police took him to deliver him to the Prosecutor’s Office, they said.
